Modern Warfare 2: Gamespot Review
As a new player it can be little rough, the game has changed a bit compared to the last game, luckily its not too dramatic a difference from COD4. Here are my tips that helped me from levels 1 to 10 and beyond.
* When you hear that there is a friendly UAV Online, hide against a wall or get some cover, hit start and check the map to see where the red dots are. This will give you an idea of the enemy players are coming from behind / sides or in front.
* On small tight maps, use smgs. On bigger maps, assault rifles. Use machine guns / rocket launchers if you get killed by air support.
* When move from place to place on the map, move from cover to cover, don’t run in the middle of the street, hug walls, duck behind things that can’t be shot through.
* If you hear Enemy UAV Online, randomly check your six, before crouching and avoid sitting too long if the enemy team is moving a lot.
* If there is a crows of enemy players 2 to 3 clumped up don’t be ashamed to use a frag or your grenade launcher. Noob tubes be damned.
* Start a private match and run around the maps a bit to get familiar with all the little camping spots.
* Remember to switch up your play style a bit sometimes, everyone has their fave: camping, run / gun, sniping or support. Opposing players will only have the same options as you, so sometimes the best way to beat a camper is to out camp them and wait a bit.
* If you get killed, resist the temptation to run after the guy who killed you or run with your team to their death. Early on is when NOT dying is most important.
* When any match starts let everyone else go run and die, it’s a waste to go try to find the enemy first.
* Running into bullets is bad.
* Sometimes a good tactic is to try to patrol one or two points back and forth where you know you can get cover and people tend to run by.
* If you get a deathstreak, stop running, and camp, assess the situation, listen to the team and check your map. 30 seconds of not dying is depriving the other team of kills b/c there is one less guy to shoot at. Sometimes you not dying is all your team needs to win the match. Remember, see, assess, listen, check. SALC.
* SMGs: you should be able to have your sight be as big as the guys head. Assault rifles your sights as big as the guys body. Sniper rifles your sights twice the size of their body. Know your effective range, no point in shooting if your gun has no chance of hitting.
* UAVs help your entire team win.
* Remember it takes more strength to not say something negative than to flame someone in a lobby, being a bigger man realizing that MW2 is a game and at anytime you can just turn off the xbox and walk away means you’re more likely to retain what you learned and improve each time.
* Meditate before playing, take 3 to 5 minutes to close your eyes, breathe deeply and visualize a peaceful calm place like a tropical island, high mountain peaks, anywhere you feel relaxed or at peace. Feel the universe give you its energy and flow through you to your center and out through your body. This is your Chi.
* Warm up: the 1st one or two matches, focus on getting headshots, not kills, get used to aiming and don’t worry about running all over the place killing 25 people w/o dying.
* If you can play with headphones for your game sound rather than speakers, it will help you hear where people are and objects in the game better, gives you a higher battlefield awareness.
Keeping all these little tidbits in mind while you are adjusting to the pace of gameplay and the patterns other players follow should help you make it to rank 10 easier than being just another player that gets shot on the losing killcam.
