I sort of think I may have guessed it (I’m sure I wasn’t the only one) after the ipad was announced, but there are plenty of reactionary or were-already-in-the-works tablets. Maybe Apple just beats people to the punch on the press conference or maybe S.Jobs is just a press conference guru or whore. Whichever, it wasn’t far off on the horizon that manufacturer’s chimed in. Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • Something not as big as a piece of paper, because if its freakin’ huge the battery life will be poor and its going to probably be more expensive than an e-reader.
  • Wi-fi and 3G option, not sure how to work multi-carrier but I’m sure they’ll be plenty of options out there
  • e-reader support for Amazon and/or Barnes & Noble formats
  • At least 2 USB ports
  • keyboard and a mouse support, so if it is about 8 to 10 inches screen size I can use it type things on
  • HD video capable, or just even video capable
  • supports multi-format audio and video so I can rip movies and audio to watch on it for FREE
  • I’d be happy if battery power lasts as long as a laptop 5 to 8 hours would be great
  • Webcam, if you can video call with it and its on a 3G network then Sci-fi here we come
  • ipad price competitive, if it does everything a laptop / Netbook does except play games and the battery life doesn’t drag it down I’d be stoked.
  • Some type of integrated stand on the back, buying extra stands is lame
  • All that may be wishful thinking but if these things go mainstream as much as ipods and ipads may, then I’d say we’re getting one step closer to making the everyday computer a reality. Then all we need is to be able to process transactions like groceries or financial transactions from a mobile device instead of with credit cards or cash or check. Here’s hoping to the future.
